Jackrabbits are a common sight in southwest Texas where I was raised. They are built for speed in the dry semi-arid country and can run quickly dodging the thorny shrubs that grow everywhere. This one was running from the car as I drove through the pasture and suddenly stopped, as they often do, and I was able to take the photo. As soon as I got the photo he took off at full speed and disappeared from view.
Growing up in the small southwest Texas town of Uvalde gave me a real appreciation for the rural country life in the semi-arid southwest. I was always enjoyed seeing the homes, building and tools that people used to make a living ranching and raising livestock. During my upbringing I knew I enjoyed seeing the barns, pens, pickup trucks and tractors used to work on ranches. Since my father ran service stations I was interested in subjects like rural country stores, old gas pumps as well as the old vehicles, and other related equipment. The graying of the cedar fence posts, old lumber on the barns, the rusting barbed wire, and tin roofs and dry leather of saddles were things I enjoyed seeing.
