This is a scene of Cape Cod Bay from a photo I took when my wife, Rose, and I were there visiting her Father who lived East Falmouth, Ma. It was a beautiful summer day and captured many of the sail boats just resting in the harbor area. The peacefulness of the scene was what I wanted to capture in the painting.
Growing up in the small southwest Texas town of Uvalde gave me a real appreciation for the rural country life in the semi-arid southwest. I was always enjoyed seeing the homes, building and tools that people used to make a living ranching and raising livestock. During my upbringing I knew I enjoyed seeing the barns, pens, pickup trucks and tractors used to work on ranches. Since my father ran service stations I was interested in subjects like rural country stores, old gas pumps as well as the old vehicles, and other related equipment. The graying of the cedar fence posts, old lumber on the barns, the rusting barbed wire, and tin roofs and dry leather of saddles were things I enjoyed seeing. Thanks Lori, I'm happy about this painting because I don't do many water scenes but this was such a peaceful scene I've wanted to paint it for some time. It took two times to get one I liked but that's not unusual.
